01About this check

What does a PDF accessibility check tell you?

This free checker tests your PDF against the machine-checkable requirements of PDF/UA-1 using an industry-standard validator. It reports structural findings and page locations, with next steps for your review.

Does a passing check mean my PDF is WCAG compliant?

No. Automated checks confirm structure, not meaning. Review whether alternative text conveys each image's purpose, the reading order makes sense, headings and tables match the content, and forms work with a keyboard. Contrast, language changes, and link purpose also need review.

What can I upload?

One PDF at a time, up to 20 pages and 4 MB. No account is required. Your PDF is deleted after checking, and the checker does not use AI to process your document.

Can the checker make a scanned PDF accessible?

No. The checker reports findings and does not modify your PDF. An image-only scan has no readable text for a screen reader, so it needs text recognition, tags, alternative text, and a logical reading order.

Scanned or handwritten PDF?

Paperlyft converts scanned and handwritten pages into tagged, accessible PDFs. Your team reviews every page against the original before publishing.
